Freshman Claire McAllister (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and sophomore Katherine McVeagh (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Township) of the University Scranton field hockey team were honored for their work in the classroom late last week, as both were named Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Scholars of Distinction.
Meanwhile, 12 members of the Scranton field hockey team were named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Squad. They were:
McAllister, McVeagh, freshman Tate Ackerman (Endicott,N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) and Lauren Earnshaw (Audubon, Pa./Methacton), sophomore's Julie Burrill (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South), Erin Dolphin (Orangeburg, N.Y./Pearl River), Cyan Scarduzio (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) and Elizabeth Tolley (Brookside, N.J./West Morris Mendham), juniors Jessica Kaplowitz (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and Olivia Adams (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining), and senior's Amanda Maresca (Matawan, N.J./St. John Vianney) and Elizabeth Yorey (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills).
The Scholars of Distinction recipents achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. Meanwhile, each member of the National Academic Squad required a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 or greater to earn a spot on the team.
