Junior goalkeeper Colleen Berry (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) of The University of Scranton women’s soccer team had an outstanding season, and she was never better than in the two NCAA Tournament games this past weekend.

Berry made 21 saves over two matches this past weekend as the Royals advanced to the second round for the first time since 2010. As a result, she has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.

In Saturday’s first-round matchup with 25th-ranked Rowan, Berry made 12 saves as the Royals posted a 2-0 victory despite being outshot, 20-3. Arguably the biggest moment of the game – outside of Scranton’s two goals – came in the 51st minute when Berry dove to her right to save a shot, then scrambled to her knees to snag a shot on a rebound just before it crossed the line, preserving the team’s 2-0 lead.

The 12 saves in that victory were one shy of matching a career high for Berry.

A day later, she made nine saves in a 1-0 loss to 10th-ranked Messiah in a second-round matchup. She was on top of her game right from the start, making a leaping save in the second minute. It was the first of a handful of strong saves she made in the match as the Royals were outshot 24-2 in the match.

Berry finishes the season, her first as a starter, having allowed just 14 goals in 21 matches with a 0.64 goals-against average. She made 110 saves for an .887 save percentage. Her 13 shutouts are tied for fourth-most in a single season in program history, her 110 saves are fifth, her .887 save percentage is tied for fifth and her 0.64 goals-against average is eighth-best.
